How to start an Adventure Career…
I’ve been working in the Outdoor Industry for 20 years. I’ve really enjoyed most of that time. The cost of training and development has been a challenge throughout my career.
I helped start Land & Wave 10 years ago. As we grew, we realised that there was a shortage of qualified Outdoor Instructors.
In 2013, we advertised a full-time professional training course. Eleven trainees joined us from November until February; it was a fantastic Winter.
The course has since grown; 32 trainees now join us every Winter for 15 weeks of coaching, experience, training and assessment.
The cost of training continues to be the biggest challenge for people aspiring to join the outdoor/ adventure industry.
The Land & Wave Outdoor Instructor Training course last 15 weeks and is focused on qualifications to kick-start an adventure career. Course fees cost £5500 and include 75 days of training, development and assessment.
The cost of completing the same training and assessment courses individually can be prohibitive. The courses themselves make up only a very small part of the learning process.
You’ll need at least 20 days of experience before your Lowland Leader assessment
You’ll need at least 5 days of experience before your NCFE Bushcraft Instructor assessment
You’ll need at least 5 days experience before your Canoe Award assessment.
Any (good) full-time, professional training course will help you with almost all of those required pre-assessment experience days.
The total cost of completing all of the courses included as part of Outdoor Instructor Training independently is £2635+
Our full time course includes every single training and assessment course and 75 days of superb coaching, tuition and experience to make sure that you succeed.
The biggest factor people forget to factor in is time to train.
I wish I’d been able to access a professional training course at the start of my career. I would’ve been more qualified, more employable and more experienced from the get-go.
Choose the right full time training course for you; invest in your training, your future and your adventure career.

If you’re starting an outdoor adventure career, seriously consider a full-time professional training as an alternative to a university degree. They are much better value and you’ll be employable immediately after the course.
